"Bucky" - abandoned 30+ year old horse
Bucky was brought to Plane View Farm as a boarder and has been abandoned. Bucky is an adorable buckskin gelding who is in his 30s, has frost-bitten ears, and a heart of gold. We often let Bucky roam the property and he follows people around like a puppy dog. The lesson kids dote over him, bathe him, and just love him up and down.
The normal process for an abandonment at a boarding facility results in a court order to sell the horse at a sale, and apply the sale price to the board money owed. I do not want to go through this process with Bucky because with his age, he will surely end up bought by the killer buyers.
This is the first time I've ever asked for outside funds to help with a horse in need, but please do visit our website so you can see what we try to do to help out horses in need. We are not an organized "rescue", but we do keep a lot of horses from going to slaughter. I am only begging for funds now to allow this sweet old horse to live his life out in a happy environment where he'll be loved. http://www.planeviewfarm.com (go to the "SAVES" tab)
We are happy to donate our labor and a paddock for Bucky to remain at Plane View Farm, but his maintenance costs are rather high and we really need help with them. Bucky is on special Senior Feed, Beet Pulp, and a digestive aid, which total his feed cost at about $150/month. In addition, his worming, vaccinations, farrier costs, teeth floating, and other vet needs average about an additional $45-50/month. So our monthly needs to support Bucky living out a healthy happy life (NOT ending in slaughter), will average approximately $200/month.
Bucky could also really use a winter blanket. The temperatures have been dropping down into the single digits regularly. We did come up with a temporary blanket for him, but it is too big, so slides back behind his aged high withers. He wears a 74", if anyone has a heavy winter blanket to donate, and the best fit would be a high neck so it stays in front of his withers. Or if someone could donate money for a blanket, we should be able to hit a sale and get a winter blanket for around $125-$150.
I thank everyone in advance for your help with this old boy!
